CWDS’ 2020 calendar. ‘A Fistful of Salt…’ that commemorates 90 years of the Dandi Salt March. On April 6, 1920, Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi lifted a fistful of clayey mud embedded with salt crystals from the sea at Dandi on the Gujarat coast, thus violating the laws of British India. The Mahatma had initially been ambivalent about women’s participation in what could become a difficult protest. However, as our rare archival images show, women leaders and countless others, soon joined the protest that extended over several months.
