Project Name:  Pathways to Higher Education: A Gendered Analysis

About the Project:

This project aims to delineate the differentiated conditions determining differentiated educational choices and process to accessing distinguished educational pathways. Family’s active participation including, investing time and financial resources, and manoeuvring of contacts with the extended family, and peer circle are knit together in the process of navigating through children’s education. Location of the family in the socio- economic structure, and micro practices detailing and strategizing in the family play significant role for planning for the present and future course of children’s education. Drawing upon the sociological studies suggesting families’ greater bent towards the male child for falling into confirming the dominant patriarchal ideology; the present study envisages to dwell on the attitudes and practices that the male students have to deal with until their admission into their respective educational institute. As most of the literature on engineering education focus on the comparatively lesser presence of female students in the respective discipline; hence, undertaking empirical research engaging with women; the present research while attempting to draw a comprehensive understanding looks forward to examine the preceding practices that were pulled together at the familial domain to prepare sons’ higher education career choices.

Requirements

  • Post Graduate in Sociology, Social Science, and having experience in educational studies.
  • Experience of conducting field research for qualitative data, and analytical skill on social sciences research packages (SPSS).
  • Good command on Hindi and English

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Review of secondary literature, data collection through questionnaire and in-depth interviews
  • Translation and transcription of interviews.
  • Data processing and analysis.
  • Any other work assigned by the Co-Principal Investigator related to the research project mentioned above.

 The applicant must commit to work full-time for the mentioned duration.

Remuneration – Consolidated salary is Rs.20000/- per month. The actual field travel expenses will be borne by CWDS and the daily limit will be a maximum of Rs.250/-
