Teaching Programme in Women’s Studies

Women’s and Gender Studies MPhil/PhD programme is conducted jointly by Ambedkar University Delhi and Centre for Women’s Development Studies (Delhi) .The program will assimilate analytical understandings of the significance of gender (relations) and foster study of conduits and configurations of power, causes, contexts and consequences of women’s subordination.

MPhil programme duration:2 years (4 semesters)

The taught component of the MPhil programme shall be normally completed over two semesters. Guided thesis research is transacted over the next two semesters. Selected MPhil students, subject to performance and other selection criteria, may proceed to doctoral research after completing 18 credits of courses of the MPhil programme (without completing an MPhil thesis). Direct admission of doctoral scholars is also possible under the combined MPhil/PhD programme.

Total Credits: 30. Course work = 18 credits; thesis work = 12 credits.

MPhil eligibility

Masters in any field with 55% or equivalent CGA, or comparable professional qualification with 55% or equivalent CGA.

Direct PhD eligibility

MPhil in Women’s and Gender Studies or in a related discipline OR Masters’ degree with at least 55% in aggregate along with at least two years’ relevant ‘practical’ experience or research engagement and/or publications in the related field.
Successful PhD candidates will be eligible to apply for ICSSR Doctoral Fellowships through the CWDS, for which separate interviews will be undertaken soon after joining the PhD programme.
