Project: Co-working Spaces and Women: An Exploratory Study

 

Call for the Post of Research Assistant – 1 Post  (On Contract)

Duration: 5 months (November, 2024 – March 2025)

About the Project

Co-working spaces are understood as low-cost workplaces which allows people from different industry backgrounds to use a space to work. These are neither private spaces nor the primary site of work and they are documented to facilitate productive activities with other forms of interactions and relationships. It has created high expectations regarding its positive effects on women’s social and economic life alongside promoting changes in the labour market. In this context, the study proposes to provide a critical understanding of co-working from the perspective of women’s employment.

The study would explore co-working spaces to understand what is co-working for women, where does it happen, who co-works and whether it is a preferred choice for women. Given the understanding of a stated preference for flexible jobs among women in the context of domestic and care demands, it is imperative to understand the boundaries between work and non-work life conceptualized and navigated by women who work in co-working spaces. Further, the differences if any between men and women and also of women of different age groups, sectors of employment in terms of their engagement with these spaces and their negotiations are also important dimensions. The field site is NCR region.

Roles and Responsibilities

  1. Collate, Review and Analyse secondary literature and policy documents under the overall guidance of the Principal Investigator (PI).
  2. Development of qualitative research tools under the supervision of the PI.
  3. Carry out field data collection including planning and conducting of in-depth interviews, transcribing qualitative interviews, data analysis and preliminary report writing in consultation with the PI.
  4. Any other work assigned by the project director related to the research project.

Requirements

Candidate should be Post graduate in social sciences (55% minimum) with NET /M.Phil./Ph.D with some prior experience in conducting field-based research.

The Applicant must commit to work full-time for the duration of the appointment

Good communication in Hindi and English is mandatory.

Remuneration: Salary is 37,000/- per month. The actual field travel expenses will be reimbursed as per CWDS rules.
