Project: Endometriosis Voices: Women’s Everyday Lives and Treatment Experiences in Cities of India
Call for Research Assistant for Bangalore (On-site): 1 post (On Contract); Duration: 2 months (December and January)
About the Project
This short-term project, funded by the ICSSR [PI: Dr Bijoya Roy, Centre for Women’s Development Studies; Co-PI: Dr Sreeparna Chattopadhyay, Manipal University, Bangalore], investigates the lived experiences, health-seeking pathways, and out-of-pocket expenses associated with endometriosis in India. The project involves ethnographic methods [in-depth interviews and some observations] and will take place in Bangalore and Delhi. Through this project, we hope to contribute to intersections between reproductive justice and health systems strengthening in India.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct in-depth, in-person qualitative interviews with patients and potentially healthcare providers in hospitals and clinical settings.
- Ensure ethical and sensitive data collection, maintaining confidentiality, and adhering to informed consent protocols.
- Transcribe interviews accurately and assist with preliminary data organization.
- Maintain detailed field notes and contribute to the development of interview guides and thematic coding.
- Coordinate with hospital partners and PI/Co-PI for data collection logistics.
- Participate in regular team meetings.
- Languages: Fluency in Hindi and English (required); ability to speak Kannada is highly desirable.
Experience
- Demonstrated experience in primary qualitative data collection on health and/or gender-related topics.
- Strong skills in rapport building, sensitive interviewing, and maintaining participant confidentiality.
- Excellent communication skills.
- Prior experience working in hospital or clinical settings.
Desirable Attributes
- Familiarity with feminist research methods or medical anthropology.
- Self-motivated, detail-oriented, and comfortable working independently and collaboratively.
Requirements:
Post-graduate in social science discipline (55% minimum) with NET /M.Phil. / Ph.D. Applicants from the marginalised communities and women are invited to apply.
Remuneration: Salary is Rs. 37,000/- per month as per ICSSR Rules with actual TDS.
