About the Project
Street vending is a vital part of India’s informal economy, providing livelihoods to millions of people, especially women. From a socio-economic perspective, the Burari area of North Delhi is largely a lower-middle and working-class area, where most people depend on small jobs or businesses to support their families.
This study aims to explore the opportunities and challenges faced by women street vendors in Burari, a rapidly urbanising area with a large number of migrant women street vendors. The study aims to analyse the impact of street vending on women’s self-employment and examine the socio-economic profile of women engaged in street vending in Burari, including legal, financial, social, and structural barriers.
Requirement
Post-graduate in a social science discipline with a minimum of 55% marks. Prior experience in conducting research and data analytical skills, preferably in the area, is desirable.
Should be able to communicate in Hindi as well as English.
Candidates from historically marginalised communities and women are encouraged.
Roles and Responsibilities
- Conduct primary surveys/ in-depth interviews, and compile detailed field notes and ensure data quality and timely completion of tasks.
- Translate and transcribe interview recordings accurately.
- Assist in developing questionnaires and data collection tools if required.
- Enter, clean, and maintain research data in Excel databases.
- Any other work assigned by the Co-Principal Investigator related to the research project
The applicant must commit to work full-time for the mentioned duration.
Remuneration – Salary is Rs. 20000/- per month, Consolidated. The actual field travel expenses will be borne by CWDS, and the daily limit will be a maximum of Rs. 250/-
