Project: Engendering A Count on Engineering Education: An Account
Call for Field Investigator: 1 Post (Contractual)
Duration: For two months
About the Project:
The project aims to review and discuss current research on STEM education in India drawing on recent studies in Sociology and Sociology of Education. One of the recent Government of India policies have brought a 20% supernumerary seat reservation for girls in the B.Tech courses at IITs for encouraging more female students’ participation. The policy has been rolled out in a full- fledged manner since the year 2020. In the context of limited studies on educational process, and students’ experience at the higher educational institutes, this project aims to generate insights on institutions as a socio- cultural space where education is delivered and experienced. The broad research questions intend to study if the respective policy in question opens up opportunities for girls in the premier higher educational institutes of science and technology, and if the intent of the policy brings any empirical change in providing a more gender sensitive educational campus- space to students belonging to diverse societal backgrounds. The project aims to gather the enrolment records of students and their experience at the institutional setup.
