Project name: Climate Change and Urban Informal Sector Women Workers in Delhi
Call for the Post of Research Associate – 1 Post
Duration: 5 months (November, 2026 – March 2027)
About the Project: Many cities in India are facing challenges and are increasingly experiencing extreme weather episodes, which disproportionately affect the urban poor. However, there is a lack of adequate research that capture the impact of these changes on the lives of low income working class households. Further, the available limited research on the subject does not engage with the nuances of its impact on women as workers. Focussing on severe heat and surface water flooding the study would explore how these extreme weather events impact on life and livelihoods of low- income families who are largely informal sector workers. The key questions that the study would engage are the economic, health and social impact of heat waves and floods on women workers and their families; its interaction with their livelihoods, house work and care work. It will also capture the adaptation strategies of women workers. The field site is Delhi and women workers residing in select localities who are primarily engaged in three sectors – waste collection, street vending and domestic work is the target group.
